Two fresh photos from the game have been unveiled ahead of the film’s release. In the first image released by Total Film, a fully dressed and fully sculpted Downey is in the center of the ring. Looking every bit as fight-ready as he was in red gloves and matching shorts that reflected his family name, Donnie furrowed his brows to fix his opponent.

As we’ve seen on Rocky’s face countless times over the years. Meanwhile, in a second image, Downey’s opponent Damian Anderson is standing in his corner with his arms over the ring ropes.

What’s really interesting is that Damian appears to be far more conflicted and contemplative than his opponent. This is probably due to the deep history between the two characters, who are childhood friends. Clearly, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows for this pair as the film opens on the story of Damian reaching out to the now very successful Donny following his release from prison and it’s clear there’s resentment.

Donnie is living the life he deserves and there’s more to the boxing card than just glory when it threatens to disrupt Donnie’s new life. As well as marking the directorial debut for Creed 3 star Jordan, it is also the first film in the spin-off saga not to feature Stallone. I think it’s in the spirit of Rocky, whose fingerprints will be on this franchise forever and ever, he told Empire, but at the same time, the Creed franchise is headed in a stronger direction.

Rocky resonated with audiences because it was a franchise about everyday life – the fighting that happens outside the ring. The character’s popularity was bolstered by the fact that Rocky was and still is Stallone.

Anything can happen in the last two movies, so it’s clear that Jordan is ready to do what he’s told. With themes of family, the harshness of life, and loyalty all sitting at its heart, Creed 3 looks daunting at first glance.
