There was a lot of hype and a lot of talk about Henry coming back as Superman. He had announced this a few months back as well. Fans were eagerly waiting to see their favorite actor donning the cloak once again, but it seems the co-CEOs are not in favor.

Director and Co-CEO, James Gunn made an announcement on his Twitter handle that they are writing a new Superman movie that will focus on his early life and that actor Henry Cavill will not be returning as the superhero. the tweet can be read as

Peter and I have a DC slate ready to go that we can’t think of more; We’ll be able to share some exciting details about our first projects at the start of the new year.

James Gunn’s tweet further read Superman is among those on the slate. In the initial stages, our story will focus on the earlier part of Superman’s life, so the character will not be played by Henry Cavill. But we just had a great meeting with Henry and we’re huge fans and we talked about the many exciting possibilities of working together in the future.

However, a source close to the DC Universe revealed that James Gunn and Peter Safran met with actor Henry Cavill and came up with another character the Witcher actor could take on.

Henry Cavill shared a statement on his social media handle that he is no longer returning as Superman. His message to his fans read, “It’s sad news, everyone. After all, I’m not returning as Superman.” After the studio announced they would return in October, ahead of their hire, the news isn’t the smoothest
